Coming up from underground I moved my head out of the book to watch the landscape and was startled by how dull it appeared. I had forgotten how winter glazes everything into monochromes. My coffee stayed in the microwave for so long a spot of brown began to burn and grow across the lip and the bottom of the paper cup. I drank the campfire. After school today, me and my black fingers will run to the airport and up the escalators to Florida; I have a big big smile.
